When high school seniors begin searching for scholarships to help pay for college, many learn quickly that the most competitive awards look far beyond grades and test scores. Scholarships that reward community service — both local and national — highlight students who are already making a real difference.

At Becca’s Closet, we proudly award multiple scholarships every year, including:

  • National scholarships for high school seniors across the United States

  • Local scholarships specifically for students in South Florida (Broward, Miami-Dade, and Palm Beach Counties)

Our scholarship program supports student leaders who plan to continue serving others into their postsecondary education and future careers.

Why Community Service Matters for Scholarships

Service builds strong scholarship applications because it shows you:

  • Care about others and your community

  • Can commit to something meaningful over time

  • Take initiative and lead when needed

  • Have already demonstrated real impact

Colleges and scholarship committees value students who have developed leadership, teamwork, communication, resilience, and empathy through volunteer work.

Your community service story becomes a powerful advantage.

Apply for the Scholarship That Best Fits Your Experience

One of the most important steps in applying for any scholarship is choosing one that aligns with your accomplishments. Submitting the same essay or generic application everywhere doesn’t help — but choosing the right scholarship absolutely does.

Becca’s Closet offers scholarships for:

  • Sustained community service of any kind

  • Involvement in a Becca’s Closet chapter or supporting organization

  • High school seniors involved with Becca's Closet who live in South Florida (for the South Florida Scholarship)

Applicants should review each description carefully and apply for only one scholarship — the one where their service experience best fits the eligibility requirements.

Submit a Complete Application — On Time

Strong applicants can still lose out if their application is incomplete or late.

To stay on track:

  • Request transcripts and recommendation letters early.

  • Confirm every required document is included.

  • Mail your application well before the deadline.

  • Carefully follow all instructions.

  • Complete the 2026-2027 FAFSA as early as you can.

Applications must be postmarked by the deadline to be considered.

Following directions is a sign of responsibility — and scholarship reviewers appreciate that.

A Personalized Essay Makes You Stand Out

Your essay is where your voice comes alive — it is your personal interview in writing.

Avoid the #1 mistake: reusing a generic essay written for a different scholarship.

Reviewers can tell immediately when an essay:

  • is copied from another submission

  • doesn’t match the prompt

  • lacks authentic personal details

Instead:

  • Answer exactly what the prompt asks

  • Share real moments from your service experience

  • Focus on your growth, your impact, and your future goals

  • Write with honesty — let your passion show

Scholarships are awarded to real students making real change.
