Im sixteen years old, and being the same age as Becca once she started this Charity, I was truely amazed at someone of this age, had the heart and genious to do this. Becca should be an role model for teenagers. You's were truely blessed to have a daughter, sister and friend like Becca. Im sorry that you's had to lose her so soon. But for the short sixteen years that she lived, she has changed so many young girls lifes, and brung smiles to their faces.
Also for you's to carry on her good work..well their should be more people like you's!! Keep up the good work.

Becca is a true Inspiration!!

"My mother sent me a link to this website, so I checked it out. I read it all, and looked through the pictures of some girls with their dresses, and they looked truly happy and
appreciative. I was practically crying when I saw those gorgeous girls in those gorgeous gowns. This is an amazing thing to do for these girls. Thank you so much for making the world happy, one girl at a time. =]

Dear Becca's Closet,

I am writing to give thanks for making me so happy on prom night. Everyone was astonished to see how beautiful my dress was. I couldn't help but be overjoyed that you all made this a reality for me. Thank you so very much from the bottom of my heart. You all have been and inspiration to me to do good in society and I hope one day that I could somehow be in position to give back to others. You have given me
a renewed hope that helps me to know that there are people that care.

"HI IT'S US, BRITTNEY AND SHANI JUST WANTED TO SAY THANK YOU FOR THE DRESSES AND THAT WE REALLY APPRECIATE THE TIME THAT WAS TAKEN OUT FOR US TWO. AND MAY GOD BLESS ALL OF YOU..... THANK YOU BECCA'S CLOSET
"

"Hello,
just wanted to send a quick note to thank you for what you do.
It was difficult to explain to my 16 year old that due to the economy, and the layoff, we had to be very careful with our spending, and that included dresses for her prom. After hearing about Becca's closet we went down, met a wonderful woman that helped my daughter and her friend pick out two beautiful dresses.
Becca has left a beautiful legacy. Her name is now connected with smiles and good times.
You must be very proud of what she started.
My baby will go to her prom looking like a princess.
After the prom we will return her dress, and donate 2 others.

thank you
keep up the good work.

They are so excited and looking forward to their prom.

"I Just wanted to thank you for making my daughters prom a night she won't ever forget. She was a class act with a beautiful multicolor maxi dress (gown), with matching heel sandals and costume jewelry that just set it off, She was beautiful... because of BECCA'S Closet it took away the burden of me telling her that we just don't have any extra dollars for her prom, but I Thank GOD for Becca."

"To all of the Becca's Closet (including the teenage Volunteers),

Hi, I was at your Festival Flea Market yesterday. My daughter's name is Angelica. I wanted to take the time to thank you from the bottom of my heart for your kindness and welcoming attitude.

I congratulate you on this beautiful project, which will forever keep Becca's memory alive, it truly is a blessing for parents like me.

"I just want to send a Thank you.

I took my stepdaughter to beccas closet today in Indianola Iowa. She found a dress right away, she put it on and it fit perfectly, It was meant to be for her, What an angel Becca is for starting this organization, My stepdaughter truly did not have the money to buy a dress, Me and her dad live on not much, because her dad is disabled and her mother does not have no money and, I am the only one that works, I was very inspired by the Story that I was told about Becca when we met the lady that had Beccas closet , I almost started crying, I had to choke back the tears.. I would love to get involved and open a Beccas closet out of my home. Just to see the stress go away from my step daughter, trying to get a dress for her prom and the smile on her face was priceless. Please contact me , I want to put more smiles on these girl's faces and take the stress away. Thank you very much, Kristy

I can not wait to see her prom night in this dress"

"BOUND BROOK: Prom dresses donated to flood victims

BOUND BROOK -- The New Jersey chapter of Becca's Closet, a non-profit organization which provides prom dresses to those who can not afford them, will be at Bound Brook High School tomorrow at 2:30 p.m. to assist those affected by the recent flood.

Becca's Closet was created as a legacy to Rebecca Kirtman of Florida who started the project but was killed in a car accident in 2003. Jessica Marusiak, a graduate of Bridgewater-Raritan High School, started the New Jersey chapter. Right now donations of formal gowns, dry cleaning, alterations, hair and make-up are needed. E-mail jes@beccasclosetnj.com or log on to www.beccasclosetnj.com to make a donation through the Web site or find out more about the organization from the Courier News website www.c-n.com

"This is nuts (via NYPost):

Staffers at fashion emporiums all over the city are brimming with anecdotes of teenager spending gone wild. "We definitely have girls coming in here and trying dresses on for prom," said a saleswoman at Dolce & Gabbana, where frocks regularly fetch $3,000. One seller at Barneys said she recently peddled a $2,700 ivory, ballerinastyle dress to a Manhattan private-school senior.

And it's not just the perfect dress - a few rich kids are getting plumper puckers and Botoxed brows for their big night. Dr. Lewis Feder said two teens came to his Fifth Avenue office for some pre-prom primping that included Botox between the eyes. "They both had very hyperactive muscles," said the Fifth Avenue doctor. "We gave them each half a syringe, and the muscles are smooth and beautiful."

He said he has also given three other girls - two from Westchester and one from Manhattan - Restylane injections for artfully fattened lips that cost about $600 each. "Their parents authorized me," he said.

******************

On the flip side, a story about a girl with the right values:

Some underprivileged teens are going to have some glamorous gowns for their school prom thanks to the dream of South Florida girl. A prom dress drive is being held on Tuesday in Pembroke Pines. The drive is headed by "Becca's Closet", a charity started by the family of 16-yearold Rebecca Kirtman, who was driven by the phrase: "Little things can make a big difference."

"Great Job Dana and the Bay City Michigan Chapter !

Hi! This is Dana from the Bay City Michigan Chapter! I wanted to share what is happening in Bay City!

I recently started a dress drive at all of our local high schools. I sent out letters to the schools requesting that they post flyers along with daily announcements about Becca's Closet and needing dresses. Each school was to have a bin in their office where girls could drop off their dresses and I would come and pick them up.

My girlfriend who is going into public relations next year and myself decided to have a Becca Fashion Show at our high school along with the other big high school in our city. We wanted to take another step to boost donations as well as inform the girls what Becca's Closet is all about. We got a group of students together to perform a fashion show. We had males escorting the girls in their Becca's dresses out onto the stage. A local formal wear store donated rental of the guys tuxes. Our local newspaper came in and did an article on it which I have attached. The girls modeling the dresses felt like "queens" and since has brought more dress donations in to us than we had all year! It has also brought in many calls about prom and when they can come in for a dress!

I have requested donations of jewelry, makeup, purses, and shoes as well as dresses. I almost have a whole room filled with shoes now and the jewelry is beautiful!

I have grown so much this year by doing this. Just hearing these girls stories and seeing how they "light up" when trying on these dresses knowing that they will be able to attend a dance makes it so worth while. Thank you so much for starting this wonderful program!

"Dear Beccas Closet, im a senior at McArthur High School and on the 29th of april i made an appointment to one of your locations at the festival flea market by sample road. at first i really wanted the perfect dress for prom knowing that our theme this year is "romance in rome" but wasnt really sure how i would be able to have that perfect dress knowing that im a bit financially limited if you know what i mean.when i finally arrived there, they were very welcoming and showed me that they wanted me to be as happy as possible. well, after pairing me up with one of the young ladies, she helped me pick many dresses that i thought looked nice. finally, she showed me one last dress and when i set eyes on that dress i whispered to myself " yes, this is it". it is a harvest gold strapless dress that had my name written all over it. now my prom is about 5 days away and i feel incredibly happy knowing that i will come in as the queen of the ball... thank you sincerely, jackie"

"I think it is an excellent idea for you to donate gowns to people that are in need. All girls need a chance to wear a gorgeous gown to prom, no matter how much money they have.I think that it was a wonderful idea and I love that you were thinking of others. I read about your Becca's Closet in the march issue of YM. I was so excited and very touched that someone understands the needs and wants of less fourtunate people. I am so very thankful and I wish you the best in continuing Beccas Closet.

Love,

"Hi my name is Lorie from Parkland,Florida. I am a freshmen and when i was in 7th grade i did an article on Becca's Closet for my language arts class. The assignment was to write about a person who is helping out in our community. I chose Becca and her great help she was giving to girls who wanted to go to prom but didn't have a dress. In the begining of my 8th grade year my mom was telling me about a young girl who was killed in a car accident. When i went home and was looking in the newspaper I saw a picture of Becca and I thought that I had seen her somewhere before. As I continued reading i came to realize that it was Becca from Becca's closet. Your family is a true blessing to girls in need of prom dresses and also a blessing to the community. I would have loved to have met Becca. She was a wonderful girl and her testimony was growing even before her horrible death. It is great how your family continues the Closet. Continue your good deeds and blessings to girls in the community. God bless you all.

Yours Truly,
Lorie"

"I found out about Becca's Closet on WSVN 7. When I heard the news I was Heartbroken. My first intentions was to look into my closet to donate some of my own dresses. I recall the time that I wanted to go to prom. At the time I didn't have enough money to buy a dress and I almost didn't go to prom because of this. What made things harder is that I didn't have a father and my mother has always been mentally ill. Fortunately an Angel like Becca came knocking to my door which was my aunt's friend. She flew in all the way from Venezuela to make me a dress. But now thanks to Becca's big heart all young men and women don't have to go through what I went through. Her warm caring heart will continue to put smile's on the faces that aren't as fortunate.

Thank heaven for Becca's Closet.
Elena. Miami, FL"

My Oath To You

Not a day has gone by
that your face does not appear
that you smile doesnt show
and your voice i do not hear
Not a day has gone by
that it doesnt draw a tear
not one single day
in almost a year

Its hard here without you
its so hard to move on
i still believe you are still here
although i really know that youre gone
you went far away
to a better place then this
you can see everything now
not one thing you will miss

Youre going to be there through it all
from happiness to the worst
from days we lose it
to the days we come in first
you're going to be there forever
never saying goodbye
i can promise you all of this
until the day that i die...

I LOVE YOU & MISS YOU SO MUCH

"I read about your organization in the March 2004 issue of YM magazine, and I think that to make a club/organization like this is really amazing and how even after Becca's death, the family kept it going for a good cause. I found it interesting and had to visit the site. Florida is very lucky to have people like the Kirtmans family and friends who make a huge difference in the world we live in. Even though i never knew Becca, her story made me realize that even a little difference could mean alot to society, and those kinds of qualities in people who are willing to help others make the kind of people who this world should be filled with. Thank You, Kirtman family for keeping Becca's Closet alive and helping out girls in need.

"I just visited your website and it is AMAZING. It is wonderful that Becca made her dream come true and that people still care so much-enough to keep it alive.I am sorry about your loss of a friend,a sister, daughter, and so, so, much more. But this is the best thing you could do for her after she passed away. That tragic accident lead to the caring of so many people doing good and helping others. It brought out the best in humanity.Congratulations!"

"WHAT AN AMAZING JOURNEY (SO FAR). A GROUP OF FRIENDS AND STRANGERS GATHERING AFTER A TRADEGY TO CONTINUE A SPECIAL GIRL'S MISSION. FROM A CLOSET IN REBECCA'S HOME TO CHAPTERS THOUSANDS OF MILES AWAY. A VISION OF ONE NOW SHARED BY SO MANY. IT WOULD TAKE A BOOK TO MENTION ALL OF THOSE THAT HAVE HELPED TO MAKE THIS POSSIBLE. BEGINNING WITH REBECCA, THE NOVA DRESS BANK HAS EVOLVED INTO BECCA'S CLOSET. A MEETING AT REBECCA'S HOUSE IN EARLY SEPTEMBER BROUGHT TOGETHER THE NUCLEUS OF "BECCA'S CLOSET".

VOLUNTEERS EMERGED FROM EVERY CORNER OF PLANTATION, THE COUNTY AND BEYOND. STRANGERS MADE DONATIONS AND YOUNG PEOPLE GAVE OF THEMSELVES TO SPREAD THE WORD ABOUT BECCA'S CLOSET. POSTERS WERE DISPLAYED IN STORES WINDOWS, BILLBOARDS AND BUS BENCHES DISPLAYED OUR "ANGEL". FROM ART IN THE PARK TO CHRISTMAS ON LAS OLAS, FROM A LUNCHEON AT ANTHONY'S TO A GOLF TOURNAMENT AT PALM AIRE. IN BETWEEN, A HOLIDAY BAZAAR, PANTHERS AND HEAT NIGHTS, A FASHION SHOW AND SO MUCH MORE. FROM COAST TO COAST (AND BEYOND) THE WORD HAS SPREAD ABOUT AN AMAZING YOUNG GIRL. IN NEWSPAPERS, MAGAZINES AND TELEVISION SPECIALS REBECCA HAS MOTIVATED OTHERS TO REACH OUT AND LEND A HAND.

SOMEONE TOLD ME A FEW WEEKS AGO THAT THIS ISN'T AS MUCH ABOUT COLLECTING AND DISTRIBUTING DRESSES AS IT IS ABOUT SHARING KINDNESS. FROM WHAT I HAVE SEEN; THIS COULDN'T BE MORE TRUE. NOT ONLY ARE GIRLS GRACIOUSLY ACCEPTING DRESSES, BUT THOSE DISTRIBUTING THEM ARE REALIZING THE JOY OF "GIVING". I'D LIKE TO THANK ALL OF THE ADULTS INVOLVED WITH THIS GREAT ORGANIZATION. TO THE KIDS WHO MADE THIS POSSIBLE ALL I CAN SAY IS YOU ARE ALL "SIMPLY AMAZING".

I KNOW THAT PAM, JAY & IAN AND ALL OF REBECCA'S EXTENDED FAMILY WOULD LIKE TO LET ALL OF YOU KNOW HOW MUCH THEY APPRECIATE EVERYONE'S EFFORT AND WELCOME YOUR CONTINUED SUPPORT.

THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR CARING AND SHARING

PHIL GOLDSTEIN"

"I read about Becca's closet in my YM magazine, and I was truly moved,so I visited the site.It helped me to realize that you don't have to be a superhero to make your dream come true, and that you don't even have to be living to keep your dream alive. If I ever give a beautiful dress away,it will certainly be to you all.Keep on doing good.
God Bless,

"A GREAT BIG THANK YOU TO ALL OF THOSE VOLUNTEERS WHO HELPED MAKE THIS WEEKEND A WONDERFUL SUCCESS. AGAIN, WE WERE ABLE TO PROVIDE GOWNS AND A RAY OF HOPE FOR A LOT OF DESERVING YOUNG LADIES. WE ALSO HAD SOME 'VERY' SPECIAL KIDS THIS WEEKEND WHO WERE VERY GRATEFUL FOR OUR HELP; NONE OF WHICH WOULD HAVE BEEN POSSIBLE WITHOUT THE TREMENDOUS SUPPORT WE HAVE RECEIVED FROM SO MANY PEOPLE.

"I heard about your cause in the YM MAGAZINE March 2004 issue. I love your idea about helping girls who can't afford dresses for the prom, because I know how stressful it is when the prom is headed your way! I really support this idea unlike most websites that don't do anything but read, read, and read complants! Once again GREAT IDEA BECCA! AND I HOPE IT'S GREAT UP IN HEAVEN!

"Thank you so kindly for taking the tradegy that you and your family suffered and turning it into a beautiful story, and sharing with so many of us.

Thank you for keeping the dream alive, as we know how easy it is to allow life circumstances to affect us and shut us down. My name is Heather and I am a 15 year old foster child, who has been in foster care for my whole life and in and out of 15 different homes by the time I was 4. I wont bore you with my story but I just want to thank you for allowing me and 9 other girls in foster care without parents to live a day in fantasy by being a Princess.

I am one of the Princesses chosen by Safe Haven's Place who shared with us your beautiful daughters vision. I am looking forward to meeting you on Friday as we come to choose a dress for our event. I would have loved to be at your bowl-a-thon, but thats the same day I get to be a Princess.

Again, thank you carrying out Becca's vision, and allowing me to have a great day.

"I want to thank you for allowing --------- to choose the gown (purple) of her choice. She tried it on at home and with the strings tightened it fit perfectly. No adjustments needed and nothing was showing. No risque view of the cleavage. Her father and I are very happy with the fit. Thank Mrs. Silver for her input. I thank you soooo very much. Blessings on you. Have a wonderful week."

"I think that you all are doing a wonderful job! I heard about you on the radio this morning. I live in Brevard County (in Melbourne) and I think my community should have a Becca's Closet. It is a very thoughtful idea and you all get many amounts of praise from myself and my community.

My Blessings to You All,

"Dear Becca's Closet,
My Name is Angel and I am a Police Officer for a large metro Atlanta (Georgia) agency. I was watching Becca's family on CNN and was overwhelmed with emotion as I watched. I have been in pageants in the past and have also directed the Mercer University pageant which feeds into the Miss Georgia Pageant System. I was on the phone with my best friend (a male Police Officer from the same agency) and I was amazed at his response. He told me to do some research and get back with him and that we should get involved. I was happy that he too wanted to offer his assistance. I am certain that we can offer some assistance to the cause. We actually spoke about talking with you about opening a location here in Georgia as we are sure there is much need, considering our location. If by chance that is not feasible (though I am sure with some help it is) we are willing to do a large dress drive involving several civil service agencies who I am sure will want to help as well."

"Hi, my name is Carly, and I'm a senior at UCF. I was lucky enough to know Becca from sleep away camp and from Nova, and even though she was a few years younger than me, she was still someone I considered a sweet and caring friend. I was so deeply saddened when my mom called me the night of Becca's accident to tell me about it. I was in Orlando and they didn't show any details on the local Orlando news, so I went onto the internet and saw the reports. I couldn't believe someone so innocent and beautiful inside and out could lose their life at her young age, but I strived to do something in her memory to keep her dream alive. I organized a dress drive within the Greek system at UCF. I gave out pamphlets to all the sororities at our weekly panhellenic meetings and spoke of the amazing charity Becca had started. I couldn't believe the support I instantly received! This past year, I collected about 100 dresses from my own sorority sisters and many other sorority women who I didn't even know. Becca's dream has touched people who never knew her. I feel so proud to have been able to support her charity and I can't wait to start the dress drive again next fall semester! My prayers and thoughts are with Becca's friends and family... you are all doing an amazing job!

Love,
Carly"

"My best friend's daughter just got her gown from you today. It's the perfect color, the perfect fit and she's on cloud nine.

My best friend, Sabrina, has been my best friend since we were 13, her marriage broke up and she's been struggling to raise her 3 children on her own. Saderia will graduate with 4.5 GPA as Class Salutatorian, and has full-academic scholarship to Notre Dame University. From time to time I try to help Sabrina out and when she needed to get a gown for Saderia, I suggested Becca's Closet. Sabrina didn't want to come, for fear she would have to show proof of income to qualify. I assured her the only thing required was her sincerity and school ID.

By the time we got to the cosmetics counter to get the free lipstick, we were nearly in tears. I told Sabrina I was about to breakdown looking at Mr. Kirtman because I watched the anguish on his face on TV the day he tried to go to Becca and the cops were holding him back; I will never forget it. I've lived in Plantation 20 years and pass Temple Kol Ami every day to and from work. The day of Becca's funeral, the traffic was backed up from University Drive to Pine Island and I cried as I drove by the detour that was set up.

I only have sons, so the experience of shopping for a prom dress with my best friend and her daughter was a thrill for me and making a donation was the only thing I could think of to express my gratitude for your being able to help a dear, deserving, humble friend and her grateful daughter.

Thank you for what you are doing for this community; I'm sure Becca is smiling proudly on her parents, relatives, friends and the volunteers that keep her dream alive.

Annette"

"Dear Family and Friends,
My name is Gracie , on April 17, 2004 I was blessed with a beautiful gown from your organization. Although my prom date wont be until May 28, 2004 I still wanted to thank you for your wonderful gift. I know that you all miss Becca dearly and just by me hearing your story and receiving one of the dresses, makes me feel even closer to her. I'm sure Becca was a wonderful and intelligent young lady that strived for achievement and excellence and I'm sorry that she's gone. Even though Becca is not with us today she still puts smiles on the faces of many young ladies, myself included. Thank you so much for allowing me to recieve the gift of having my very own special prom dress. I will be more than likely happy to help out with anything that I can. Thanks so much you sure put a smile inside my heart.
